“How much will this cost?” is usually the first question an Employer asks, and the honest answer is that it depends. Two logo designs, two websites or two articles can differ widely in price because they differ in scope, complexity and the experience of the person doing the work.
This guide will not give you a price list, because any fixed figure would quickly be out of date and would not reflect your Project. Instead, it explains what affects the cost of hiring a freelancer, how to set a sensible budget, and how to compare prices fairly on Tasksyy.
What affects the price
Most of the difference between two quotes comes down to a handful of factors.
Scope
Scope is the amount of work: the number of pages, designs, articles, videos or hours. It is the biggest single driver of cost. A five-page website costs more than a one-page site, and a logo with brand guidelines costs more than a logo on its own.
Complexity
Some work takes more thought, research or technical skill than other work of a similar size. A simple information page is quicker to build than a page with a booking system. A general blog post is quicker to write than a technical article that needs specialist knowledge.
Experience and specialism
Freelancers with deep experience in a specific area often charge more. In return, they may work faster, need less direction and make fewer mistakes. For straightforward work, a less experienced Freelancer may be a good fit. For complex or high-stakes work, experience is often worth paying for.
Timeline
A tight deadline can increase the price, because the Freelancer may need to rearrange other work. If your timeline is flexible, say so. It may help you get a better price.
Revisions
More revision rounds mean more time. Packages on Tasksyy state how many revisions are included, so check this when you compare.
What you provide
If you supply the text, images and brand materials, the Freelancer has less to do. If they need to write, source or create these, the cost goes up.
How pricing works on Tasksyy
There are two ways to hire on Tasksyy, and they handle pricing differently.
Services: fixed packages
A Service is a ready-made offer created by a Freelancer. Many Services come in packages. Each package lists what is included, the delivery time and the number of revisions, with a clear price. You choose a package and pay at checkout.
Services are useful for understanding costs because you can compare several offers side by side. Even if you plan to post a Project, browsing Services in your category gives you a realistic sense of current prices.
Projects: your budget, their Proposals
When you post a Project, you describe the work and set a budget. Freelancers send Proposals with their own price and timeline. This works well for custom work that does not fit a standard package.
Our guide to choosing between a Service and a Project explains when each route works best.
How to set a sensible budget
If you are not sure what to budget, work through these steps.
- Define the scope. Write down exactly what you need delivered. The clearer the scope, the easier it is to price.
- Look at comparable Services. Find three to five Services on Tasksyy that are close to your need. Note what each package includes and costs.
- Adjust for your Project. If your work is larger, more complex or more urgent than those Services, expect to pay more. If it is simpler, you may pay less.
- Set a range, not a single number. A range gives Freelancers room to propose different approaches and lets you compare them fairly.
- Keep a small reserve. Set aside some budget for small changes or additions you may want once the work is under way.
For example, if comparable Services suggest your work falls somewhere between two prices, you might post your Project with that range and note that you are flexible for the right person. Freelancers can then explain what they would deliver within it.
Costs that are easy to forget
The Freelancer’s price is not always the whole cost of a piece of work. Depending on the Project, you may also need to budget for:
- Content. Writing, photography or stock images, if you are not supplying them.
- Software and licences. Paid fonts, plugins, themes or tools.
- Hosting and domains, for websites.
- Extra revisions beyond what is included in the package.
- Ongoing support, such as updates or maintenance after delivery.
Ask Freelancers what is and is not included, so there are no surprises later. Always check the final total at checkout before you pay.
How to compare prices fairly
When you have several prices in front of you, it is natural to look at the numbers first. A fairer comparison looks at what each price includes.
- Compare like with like. Check the number of deliverables, revisions and the delivery time.
- Look at relevant work. A higher price from someone with closely matching examples may be better value than a lower price from someone without them.
- Read the approach. In a Proposal, a clear plan often tells you more than the price.
- Check the profile. Skills, languages, reviews and completed orders all help you judge whether the price is reasonable.
Our guide on how to choose the right Freelancer goes into this in more detail.
Be careful with very low prices
A low price is not automatically a bad sign. A Freelancer may be new and building their reviews, or may simply work efficiently. But a price that seems far below the others is worth a closer look.
Ask what is included. Sometimes a low price covers a smaller scope than you expected, fewer revisions, or work that uses templates rather than custom design. Knowing this upfront lets you decide whether it meets your needs.
How to get better value
You do not need to push prices down to get good value. Clear planning usually does more:
- Write a clear brief, so Freelancers can price accurately. Our guide on writing a Project brief shows how.
- Prepare your text, images and access before work starts.
- Give feedback in one organised round, rather than lots of small messages.
- Avoid changing the scope after work has begun.
- If you are happy with a Freelancer, consider working with them again. They will already understand your business.
Keep payment on Tasksyy
Whatever you agree, keep payment and communication on Tasksyy. It gives both you and the Freelancer a clear record of the order, what was agreed and what was delivered.
