How we use cookies at Tasksyy
This policy explains what cookies and similar technologies Tasksyy sets on tasksyy.com, why we use them, the legal basis for each, and how you can accept, refuse or withdraw your choices at any time.
What cookies are
Small text files and similar identifiers stored on your device that let a website recognise your browser and remember what you did.
Our legal basis
UK GDPR, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the EU ePrivacy Directive. Anything that is not strictly necessary is set only with your consent.
Your control
Granular choices per category, a one-click “reject all”, and a preference centre you can reopen whenever you like. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
Who we are
TASKSYY INTERNATIONAL LTD (Company No. 17088961), the company that operates the Tasksyy freelance marketplace and its escrow and wallet services.
Introduction and scope
Tasksyy is an online freelance marketplace operated by TASKSYY INTERNATIONAL LTD, a company registered in the United Kingdom under company number 17088961, with its registered office at 2a Connaught Avenue, London, United Kingdom, E4 7AA. TASKSYY INTERNATIONAL LTD is the data controller for the personal information processed through tasksyy.com and the Tasksyy marketplace, including our escrow, wallet and identity-verification features.
This Cookie Policy applies every time you visit tasksyy.com, sign in to your account, browse services, post or accept a project, fund escrow, use our messaging features or contact support — whether you are an Employer buying work or a Freelancer offering it.
It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more broadly, and with our Terms and Conditions, Refund Policy and Trust & Safety pages. Where this policy refers to cookies, the same rules apply to the similar technologies described in section 2.
What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store. They allow the site to recognise your browser on return visits, keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure how pages are used and — where you have consented — support advertising. Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser (“session” cookies); others remain for a set period (“persistent” cookies).
We also use technologies that behave like cookies and are covered by this policy and by PECR regulation 6:
- Local storage and session storage — data kept in your browser rather than sent to us on every request; used to preserve marketplace state such as a draft project brief.
- Pixels and web beacons — tiny transparent images or script calls that tell us whether a page, email or ad was viewed.
- Software development kits (SDKs) — code from a partner, such as our email and CRM platform, that can set identifiers when it loads.
- Device and browser identifiers — pseudonymous identifiers derived from your device or browser used for security, fraud prevention and, with consent, analytics.
Where this policy says “cookie” it means cookies and all of the technologies listed above.
The legal framework we follow
Because we are established in the United Kingdom and serve users in the UK and the European Union, our use of cookies is governed by the following rules:
PECR (UK)
The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 require us to give you clear and comprehensive information about cookies and to obtain your consent before storing or accessing information on your device, unless the cookie is strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested. Regulation 22 separately restricts the use of electronic communications for direct marketing.
UK GDPR
Where a cookie processes personal data, the UK General Data Protection Regulation also applies. It requires us to have a lawful basis — consent, legitimate interests, performance of a contract, or compliance with a legal obligation — and to be transparent about what we do.
EU ePrivacy Directive and EU GDPR
For visitors in the European Economic Area, the ePrivacy Directive and the EU GDPR apply in the same way, and we apply the same standard of consent we use for UK visitors.
What valid consent means
UK and EU regulators require consent to be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, expressed by a clear affirmative act. In practice, that means we must:
- we do not pre-tick optional cookie categories;
- we aim to offer “reject all” with the same prominence as “accept all”;
- we do not treat continued browsing or the act of closing a banner as consent;
- we do not condition access to the marketplace on accepting non-essential cookies; and
- we aim to make withdrawing consent as simple as giving it.
Cookie categories we use
We group the cookies we use into the five categories below. Choose a category to see what it does, whether consent is required, and what typically changes if you turn it off.
Strictly necessary cookies
Always on · no consent requiredThese cookies are required to run Tasksyy safely. They keep you signed in, maintain your session while you move between pages, protect forms, messages and payments against cross-site request forgery, keep wallet and escrow checkout state, remember your consent choices, serve the correct cached page and confirm that you are 18 or over.
Because the marketplace cannot function without them, and because any information they hold is used only to deliver the service you asked for, we treat them as exempt from the consent requirement under PECR. We do not use them for advertising or profiling. Turning them off in your browser may prevent sign-in, escrow and payments from working correctly.
Functional cookies
Optional · consent requiredFunctional cookies remember the choices that make Tasksyy feel like yours: your preferred currency and language, your dashboard layout, the filters and list or grid view you last used, and your recent marketplace searches. They also support convenience features such as “Continue with Facebook” sign-in and keeping a support conversation open while you browse.
If you refuse them, the marketplace still works — you will simply have to re-set your preferences on each visit and some convenience features, such as saved filters, will not persist.
Analytics and performance cookies
Optional · consent requiredAnalytics cookies help us understand how the marketplace is actually used: which pages Employers visit before posting a project, where Freelancers drop out of onboarding, which search terms return no results, and how quickly pages load. We use this to fix friction, prioritise features and measure whether changes work.
We currently use Google Analytics 4 (property G-20260816) and HubSpot for this purpose, and we may run A/B tests on our own interface to compare layouts. We aim to configure analytics so that IP addresses are not used by us to identify you, and we do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles. Refusing analytics cookies does not affect your ability to buy or sell on Tasksyy.
Advertising and targeting cookies
Optional · consent requiredThese cookies are used only where we run paid advertising campaigns — for example to measure whether a campaign successfully brought new Freelancers to the marketplace, to cap how often you see the same ad, and to avoid showing you ads for services you have already bought. They may be set by us or by advertising partners such as Meta, Google Ads, LinkedIn, TikTok or Microsoft Advertising.
We aim to keep advertising cookies switched off unless you actively opt in. We do not use them to make automated decisions that affect your access to Tasksyy, your account standing, escrow or payouts. You can withdraw consent at any time, and you can additionally limit interest-based advertising using the industry opt-out tools listed in section 7.
Social media cookies
Optional · consent requiredSocial media cookies are set when you use or view social features on Tasksyy, such as signing in or registering with Facebook, sharing a service or profile, or viewing an embedded video hosted by YouTube. These platforms may set their own cookies and may link activity on Tasksyy to your account on their service.
These cookies are optional and we aim to keep them off by default. If you choose not to enable them, you can still create a Tasksyy account and trade normally using email registration; embedded third-party content may simply be unavailable to you.
First-party and third-party cookies
A cookie is first-party when it is set by the domain you are visiting — tasksyy.com — and third-party when it is set by a different domain whose code runs on our pages, such as an analytics, payments or social platform.
| Type | Who sets it | What it is used for on Tasksyy | Your control |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-party | tasksyy.com | Sign-in and session, consent records, currency and language, dashboard preferences, escrow and wallet checkout state, our own analytics and interface tests. | Necessary ones cannot be switched off; optional first-party cookies follow your category choices. |
| Third-party | Payment, analytics, CRM, advertising and social providers | For example card and wallet payments and fraud checks (our payments processor partner), analytics (Google Analytics 4, HubSpot), email and CRM journeys (Brevo), social sign-in and sharing (Meta and others), and advertising where you opt in. | Fully controlled by your category choices in the banner, plus the browser and industry tools in section 7. |
Third-party providers act as our processors or independent controllers depending on the service. We seek to select providers that offer appropriate contractual safeguards, and we require them to protect your information in line with the standard described in our Privacy Policy.
How we manage consent — and how you change or withdraw it
How consent is collected
On your first visit, we aim to show a consent banner powered by CookieYes before any non-essential cookie is set. It gives you:
- a clear summary of each category and what it does;
- an Accept all button and an equally prominent Reject all button;
- granular toggles so you can enable, for example, analytics but not advertising;
- a link to this policy before you decide; and
- no pre-ticked boxes, and we do not treat continued browsing as consent.
Your choice is typically stored in the cookieyes-consent cookie so
the banner does not reappear on every page, and we aim to set no optional cookie
unless you have enabled its category.
How to change or withdraw your consent
You can change your mind at any time, with no effect on your account, your escrow, your payouts or your access to Tasksyy:
- Cookie Preference Center — open the cookie icon or the “Cookie Preferences” link in the site footer and adjust the toggles.
- Withdraw all optional consent — choose “Reject all” in the same centre to switch off everything except strictly necessary cookies.
- Browser controls — block or delete cookies through your browser settings, using the guidance in section 7.
Withdrawal takes effect for future processing: we stop setting the cookies in the categories you have turned off, and we take steps to delete the optional cookies we control. It does not affect the lawfulness of anything we did while your consent was in place, and it does not affect the strictly necessary cookies that keep the marketplace secure and working.
Records, renewal and accountability
- We aim to keep a record of the consent you gave: what you chose, when, and which version of the banner and policy you saw. This is how we seek to demonstrate compliance with PECR and the UK GDPR accountability principle.
- We aim to refresh consent for optional cookies at least every 12 months, and sooner if we materially change the cookies we use or the purposes we use them for.
- We do not treat silence, inactivity or a closed banner as consent.
- We do not condition access to Tasksyy on accepting optional cookies.
Browser controls and opt-out links
Every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies, and set site-specific rules. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent sign-in, escrow and payments from working correctly.
| Browser | Where to manage cookies |
|---|---|
| Google Chrome | Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies, and “See all site data and permissions”. |
| Microsoft Edge | Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data. |
| Apple Safari | macOS: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data. iOS/iPadOS: Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data. |
| Mozilla Firefox | Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. |
| Brave | Settings → Shields → Cookies and other site data. |
| Opera | Settings → Privacy & security → Cookies and other site data. |
Industry opt-out tools
These tools let you limit interest-based advertising across participating companies, independently of Tasksyy. They use their own opt-out cookies, so clearing your cookies will reset them.
| Tool | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on | Prevents Google Analytics from using your data on any site you visit. |
| Google Ads Settings | Controls personalised advertising across Google properties. |
| Your Online Choices (EDAA) | Industry opt-out for interest-based advertising in the UK and EU. |
| Network Advertising Initiative / Digital Advertising Alliance | Opt-out tools for participating US advertising companies. |
| Meta Ad Preferences | Controls how Meta uses data for advertising on its platforms. |
| LinkedIn, TikTok and Microsoft ad settings | Per-platform controls for advertising personalisation. |
| Apple App Tracking Transparency | Controls app-based tracking on iOS and iPadOS. |
The ICO also publishes independent guidance on cookies and similar technologies at ico.org.uk. If you are unsure which control to use, our preference centre is the simplest place to start, because it applies your choices specifically to Tasksyy.
International data transfers
Tasksyy serves a global marketplace, so information collected through cookies may be processed in countries other than the one you live in, including the United States, where many of our technology and payment providers operate.
Where UK or EU law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we seek to rely on the mechanisms those laws provide, which may include:
- UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses;
- EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) with the European Commission's approved modules for controller-to-processor and processor-to-processor transfers;
- adequacy regulations, where the destination country or framework has been recognised as providing adequate protection; and
- additional technical and organisational measures, such as encryption in transit and at rest, access controls and transfer risk assessments, where a transfer needs extra protection.
The safeguards that apply depend on the countries involved, the provider and the law that applies to you, and we put the relevant mechanism in place before the transfer. You can ask us for more information about the specific safeguards used for a particular provider by contacting us using the details in section 13.
How long we keep information
Cookie lifetimes. Each cookie typically lasts only as long as it needs to, and the categories in section 4 describe the purpose and typical lifetime of each type we use. Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser; persistent cookies expire on their own configured lifetimes, and we aim to configure our preference centre to re-ask for consent at least every 12 months.
Consent records. We aim to keep evidence of the consent you gave — the choices, the timestamp and the banner version — for the period for which we need to be able to demonstrate compliance, and in any event for no longer than the duration of consent plus 24 months, after which we aim to delete or anonymise it.
Account and transaction data. Information processed through your Tasksyy account, including identity verification, escrow, wallet transactions and message history, is retained in line with the retention rules in our Privacy Policy. As set out there, where you close your account we aim to delete identity-verification files linked to it within 30 days, unless there is an active escrow transaction, an open dispute, or the law requires us to keep records for longer.
Your data protection rights
Where cookies process your personal data, you have the following rights under the UK GDPR and, for EEA visitors, the EU GDPR:
- Right to be informed — to know what we collect and why, which this policy and our Privacy Policy set out.
- Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification — to have inaccurate data corrected.
- Right to erasure — to ask us to delete data where there is no overriding legal reason for us to keep it.
- Right to restrict processing — to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to object — to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including processing for direct marketing.
- Right to data portability — to receive data you gave us in a structured, commonly used format.
- Right to withdraw consent — at any time, as explained in section 6.
- Rights relating to automated decisions — we do not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing through cookies.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 13. We aim to respond within one month, and we may extend that period by up to two further months for complex or numerous requests, in which case we will tell you why. Exercising your rights is free of charge, and we do not treat it as a reason to restrict your account.
You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. If you are in the UK or EEA and you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF — ico.org.uk, telephone 0303 123 1113.
Children
Tasksyy is a professional marketplace and is not intended for anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly set cookies on, or collect personal data from, children. Where age verification indicates that a user is under 18, we will take steps to close the account and delete the associated data in line with our Privacy Policy.
Changes to this policy
We review this Cookie Policy regularly and whenever we change the cookies or similar technologies we use. When we make a material change — for example adding a new category of cookie or a new provider — we aim to update the cookie categories in section 4, refresh the version history below, and re-request your consent where the law requires it. Where a change is significant for registered users, we will normally also give notice by email or by a banner on the platform.
